A Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) is also known as an “energy saving bulb”.  CFL’s are designed to take up roughly the same space as a standard incandescent light bulb, but feature all the benefits of a fluorescent light bulb.  In fact, most incandescent bulbs can simply be replaced with their CFL counterparts.

Compared to incandescent bulbs of equivalent of wattages, CFLs use far less energy and have a much longer lifespan.  A standard Compact Fluorescent Lamp can save up to $30 or more in electrical savings and produce 2000 times its weight less greenhouse gases than an incandescent bulb.
